Why is there a need to change our Indian education system?

The history of the Indian education system is rich and has different importance. Many years ago, i.e. in ancient times, India had started on the path of improving its education system, at that time there used to be learning centers like Takshashila and Nalanda which used to provide high-level education to the children studying there. But despite such a past, today’s India faces various educational challenges. It needs to be able to address the needs of the 21st century effectively. In this blog, we will talk about this issue in detail and understand the challenges, one by one, that are due to the need for reform in the education system.

Memorization over critical thinking

You must be aware that in many schools and colleges in India, the focus is more on memorizing than explaining and understanding the concept. Children mostly focus on scoring marks and not on gaining real knowledge. Due to this approach, problem-solving skills do not develop in them. Along with this, creativity and critical thinking are also not developed in a student. Its impact is visible when students cannot apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems and their lack of innovation is visible in fields like technology, research, and entrepreneurship.

We must introduce experimental and inquiry-based learning methods, promote a project-work culture, and introduce discussion and critical analysis in classes instead of textbook-centric approaches.

Our curriculum is too outdated

The curriculum of our education system is very much outdated and discussions have been raised about it many times but no conclusion has been reached. If we talk about the current curriculum, it cannot keep pace with our technological advancement, and that’s why, there is no match with the global industry which has become very advanced today. If we focus on mainstream education, then issues like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Climate Change are not mentioned there and the focus is on the same old things. Its biggest disadvantage is seen after graduation when you do not have the skills that modern companies require. This is why the employability rate is still so low while the workforce ratio increases.

The best solution for this is that we need to update our syllabus and that too we have to design our syllabus keeping in mind the requirements of the industry. Our education policy makers should understand that today’s syllabus should be prepared keeping in mind the emerging trends.

Rural vs Urban divide

Access to quality education in our country is largely divided, there is no difference between the two being divided or unequal. There are two types of areas, one urban and one rural. In urban cities, the level of education is much higher, and the schools there are very high maintained with good facilities, but on the other hand, the condition of the schools in the rural areas is very bad and the students there. No attention is given to infrastructure. The teachers there are also not much trained and the resources are also not very updated. In this way, there is a lot of injustice to the children studying in roller areas and they have to face inequality, due to this the talented children. They do not get opportunities.

In such areas, we should focus on internet connectivity and digitization. Government schools need to be improved and the government needs to work on the infrastructure there. There is a great need to appoint skilled teachers at these schools

Absence of Useful Skills

There is a discernible disconnect between classroom instruction and practical implementation. In their chosen fields, many Indian graduates find themselves unprepared to face real-world obstacles. This disparity is closed by NPS Varthur schools, which prioritize skill-based learning. To guarantee that students are knowledgeable and able to apply their information successfully, they provide possibilities for practical learning, vocational training, and internships.

Training and Empowerment of Teachers

The foundation of any educational system is its teachers. NPS Varthur can invest in ongoing teacher training that emphasizes both subject-matter competence and contemporary pedagogical approaches to effect significant change. Teachers who are empowered can design dynamic classrooms that encourage students to pursue their interests and think critically.

Community and Parent Involvement

Schools, parents, and communities work together to provide education. Parents’ active participation can be encouraged by NPS Varthur, fostering an environment that supports pupils’ success. Involving the neighborhood in educational projects can also give pupils exposure to the real world and an opportunity for experiential learning.

What does SK Vision think about change in education?

SK Vision wants a society where everybody gets an equal opportunity in the education field, we advocate change in the education policies where every child living in a different corner of India gets a fair chance to learn and explore things with a wide range of opportunities. We believe education policy must emphasize developing skills and getting practical knowledge and along with this we also want schools and institutions to focus on moral education, this is something that SK Vision as an organization is promoting.
